Great Scott! TWO of our wines made Great Northwest Wine’s ‘Top 100 Wines of 2015’!
Our 2013 Phinny Hill Carmenérè came in at No. 45 and was the highest rated Carmenérè in the Northwest this year! This wine also received a coveted Platinum Award by Wine Press Northwest and placed No. 46 on the Seattle Times ‘Top 50 Wines of 2015’. This was the third year in a row our Carmenérè has taken home a Platinum and ‘Top 100’ rating and second year it has been on the Seattle Times ‘Top 50’. We blended in 11% Malbec from Verhey Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA, rounding out the mouth feel with chewy tannins, cinnamon spice, and ripe blackberries.
Our 2013 Umiker Syrah received their highest rating of “Outstanding!” coming in at No. 61, the third highest rated Syrah on the list. This Syrah is blended with 15% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. “This wonder team has collaborated on one of the Pacific Northwest’s top 2013 examples of this Rhône variety”, said Great Northwest Wine. Our next vintage of this wine will bear the name “Lewis-Clark Valley”, recognizing the American Viticultural Area (AVA) soon to be established in our region.
The 2013 vintage was surely a hot one with lower than average yields coming off of the vineyards both here and all over Eastern Washington. For grapes that thrive from warmer vintages, such as Carmenérè and Syrah, 2013 was an ideal harvest with concentrated and complex flavors.
