Black pepper aromas explode from this wine! The heat of the 2015 growing season provided ample opportunity for varietal character development. We harvested over a series of weeks to capture several snapshots in development in order to build complexity and depth into this stunning wine.
Phinny Hill Vineyard 98% (Horse Heaven Hills)
Verhey Vineyard 2% (Rattlesnake Hills)
Petit Verdot 3%
2015 – 18.5+/20 points, “With 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec, this 95% Carmenère offers a semi opaque ruby-crimson color and enticing aromas of blackberry, cherry and cassis, with lovely perfumes of crushed roses, lavender, violets, oriental incense and cracked pepper. On the palate, the flavors are bold and fruit forward, with notes of licorice, dark cocoa, black tea and Phinny Hill wind blown earth. The back picks up roasted berries and nuts, crème de cassis, charcoal and recurring pepper, followed by fine fruit acids on the sweet-dry tannin finish. The aromatics and depth give it a plus.” – Rand Sealey, Review of Washington Wines
