Spring Newsletter
March 31, 2026
Dear Enthusiast, Much of the current dialog in the wine business is largely dominated by a call to change anything and everything we do, to attract more people to wineries. In a world that expects change, it’s easy to believe that it could be in our best interest to do just that. Our journey in winemaking has been one of experimentation, discovery and evolution. For any change to be seriously considered by our team, it must meet at least one core principle: “Does this change improve wine quality, does it improve our team’s quality of life, does it improve…

Enthusiast Club Fall Newsletter 2025
October 27, 2025
Dear Enthusiast, Work continues in our cellar as we dig out of the avalanche of delicious grapes that poured into the winery over the last 7 weeks. The first grapes were crushed September 7th and the last October 24th. Our team is tired, grape-stained, and happy. The 2025 vintage began with an early spring, continued into a warm-steady summer, all leading to an early harvest. Bottom line, everything had a chance to fully ripen before the weather made picking miserable! Preseason predictions forecasted lower-than-average yields due to cold temperatures last winter. Fortunately, our vineyards recovered better than initially thought…

Spring Release Newsletter 2025
April 5, 2025
Enthusiast Club Spring Release Leaves are emerging from fuzzy buds on our Umiker Estate vines, bringing us hope of another bountiful harvest of homegrown grapes. In recent years we’ve been riding a tide of charmed conditions from vineyard to bottle. The cold snap last year and resulting loss of fruit reminds us of the fragility of what we do. Winemaking is controlled chaos; we try to keep step with Mother Nature in her ever changing dance from vintage to vintage. We are grateful for the beautiful wines we currently have in our cellar and will never again take for granted…

Fall Release Newsletter 2024
October 30, 2024
Enthusiast Club Fall Release Reflecting on our 20-year journey, building Clearwater Canyon Cellars, conjures many vivid memories. Of those, planting the first vines of Umiker Estate Vineyard with grandpa Ralph firmly marks the beginning in my mind. It felt wild, like ripping the lid off a time capsule, planting vines on our family’s century-old farm, with the hope of relaunching the famed pre-prohibition era wine industry. So eager to taste wine grown in this legendary region, we forged ahead, establishing Clearwater Canyon Cellars without a clear expectation of what might come of it. Boom or bust, we were so…
Umiker Vineyard Update
August 8, 2024
Moving forward after harsh winter weather The day the vineyard froze; this photo was initially taken to display the beautiful white blanketacross our vineyard, not knowing what was to come that evening. During a mid-winter freeze in January, our vineyard suffered unprecedented damage. Temperatures dipped to -12°F and failed to rise above 0°F for over 50 hours, which is too cold for too long for the exposed woody parts of vines. Fortunately, 6 inches of snow on the ground provided a blanket of warmth for the roots. This bitter cold snap caused significant damage to vine wood above the snow line. Our spring months were spent cutting the…
